The Heart of Europe Entrusted to Turkish Doctor

This year's president of European cardiac surgeons is Turkish doctor Professor Öztekin Oto. For the first time, the European Cardiovascular and Endovascular Society, one of the most respected organisations in the world, will be chaired by a Turkish doctor.

Prof. Dr. Öztekin Oto, a faculty member of Dokuz Eylül University Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, is also the president of the Turkish Heart and Health Foundation. Prof. Dr. Öztekin Oto, who has performed many successful heart transplant operations and paediatric heart-lung transplants, is known as the doctor who performed the first heart-lung transplant in Turkey. Oto has been taking part in the management of the association, of which he has been elected president for the last two years. After being elected as president, Prof. Dr. Öztekin Oto said, "I was proud that I was able to raise the bar for our Turkish colleagues and our country. For the first time, a Turk has been elected as president of a European association in cardiology or cardiovascular surgery. I wish my colleagues to achieve greater success on this path in the future."
