Little Melek Clung to Life with a Transplanted Heart

Melek Özcan, 2.5-year-old Melek Özcan, who was waiting for an organ at Dokuz Eylül University Hospital Cardiovascular Surgery Service due to congenital heart muscle deterioration and failure, was kept alive with the heart of a 6-year-old child who died of brain death in Adana. The little girl, who is Turkey's smallest patient with an artificial heart device and has been waiting for a transplant in the hospital for about 2 years, came to life with the successful operation performed by Prof. Dr. Öztekin Oto, a faculty member of DEU Hospital Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, and his team.
